One of Hampton University’s 2021 Graduates! Sierra Smither is one of Hampton University’s brightest graduates. With a 3.4 GPA in the field of Psychology, she developed her skill from an early age. The curiosity of how and why people behave and act as they do intrigued her. When asked why she decided to focus on Psychology her reply was “My motivation to choose the field of psychology was that I have always been kind of “nosy”, and curious about why people act the way they do”. Psychology is the study of people and the human mind and its functions. This is something I have always wanted to learn more about. I also have always had a passion for working with kids and students. At first, I thought I would pursue an education degree, but then psychology gave me a wider scope where I could do much more with the degree, and use it to help my passion with kids. Having been strongly developed and mentored by her parents, Sierra also acknowledges the influence of her college professors to expand on the variety of ways psychology offers.

Not only did Sierra work hard in her major of psychology and find herself on the Dean’s list & Cum Laude, but she was also very involved in over 4 different campus group activities. The 1st) is a group called Her Campus: which is a global community for college women, covering style, beauty, health, love, and careers. Sierra says there are over 35 college chapters in the US! During my time with her campus I was on the  Executive Board, and served as the Instagram Lead. I was responsible for all of our social media content!

2nd) Black is Gold: An organization dedicated to service, mentorship and sisterhood.

3rd) The Hampton Script: The script is the newspaper for Hampton U. I was a social media manager,  and was responsible for content on our Instagram, twitter, and facebook! 4th) The Hampton Clique: Impressions of beauty. Impressions of Beauty is an organization for all things beauty for college women! We hosted on campus events and programs. In her leisure time Sierra likes to cook, plays tennis and the piano, she also told me that she hopes to see herself successful in the chosen field of school psychology in 5 years and planning to get her masters degree in school psych from Howard in the fall. Sierra hopes to  have her PhD by that 5th year! This beautiful, well rounded and down to earth example of a Student Diva definitely deserves to be feature, and shows how leadership of a future Professional Diva should be!
