Dr. Ellana Stinson  Dr. Ellana N. Stinson is the shinning example of why I feature such extraordinary women of Color! Dr. Ellana Stinson is a board-certified, emergency medicine physician who practices in Boston, Massachusetts. She earned a doctorate of medicine from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Stinson currently resides in Boston where she remains true to her life’s mission of giving back to her community by primarily practicing medicine in urban and rural community hospitals in an effort to ensure underserved and under- or uninsured populations receive quality health care. In addition to providing direct patient care, Dr. Stinson serves as the medical director for the Emergency Department at East Boston Neighborhood Health Center one of two stand-alone emergency departments in the country housed within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). In this role, she leads the effort to improve emergency care for a primarily immigrant and Hispanic population.

Because she is keenly aware of the ways in which legislative policies impact health care, Dr. Stinson remains an active member of the Massachusetts Medical Society, in which she serves as chair of the Young Physicians Committee and sits on various task forces and committees. In these roles, Dr. Stinson assists in developing health policies that will be implemented throughout organized medicine and the American Medical Association, the largest physician lobbying body. Dr. Stinson frequently volunteers with several Boston-based non-profit organizations, such as Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, Downtown Boston Rotary Club, and Cradle to Crayons. She also serves as a mentor to young men and women of color interested in pursuing careers in medicine. Dr. Stinson continues to expand her entrepreneurial vision as a medical device inventor. She enjoys traveling the world and has visited more than 20 countries to date. In her spare time, she enjoys vegetable and flower gardening and running long-distance races held throughout the United States.
