Suzette Schand head shot

Suzette Schand is a Bentley University public relations/ Informational Design and corporate communications major born and raised in Boston Massachusetts. This 3.34 GPA Senior is inspired by her Mom that she admires very much, and to whom she says are very similar in the way of leading others by example and carrying themselves as women. Suzette Schand mom She says her mother is strong, plus independent  and truly respects herself before demanding respect from others. Suzette’s mother is not the only mentor in her life; she is surrounded by motivating women who strengthen her to do well.  Another mentor she has is Melissa Mayard, she is like the older sister she never had. Suzette says “Melissa was my supervisor when I was a tutor coordinator for Bentley’s Summer Transition Education Program. I consider her a mentor because whenever I have a problem or something to celebrate she is one of the first people I confide in”.  Melissa is a smart woman who makes decisions wisely, treats people nicely, cares deeply, and works very hard on herself and her work. I appreciate her because of the example she sets for young women of color, such as myself. And then there’s Claudette Blot one of my mentors. Claudette is the director of Bentley’s Summer Transition Education Program. She is my second mom and one of my biggest blessings. I consider her a mentor because of her heart of gold.  When I asked Suzette if she belonged to any organizations, she responded like this:

Suzette Schand in Australia

  • Bentley’s Summer Transition Education Program (STEP)
  • Bentley’s National Association of Black Accountants; I am Co-Vice President
  • Bentley’s Coming Full Circle; I am the President
  • The Lindsay Fellowship (An Educational Summer Program for College Students Pursuing a Career in Law); I was a Lindsay Fellow the summer of 2016.
  • Dana Farber’s Workforce Development Program; I joined this program while in high school and graduated from in 2013.

Suzette’s also the proud recipient of the Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship and she also won La Raza Queen in 2015. La Raza is a cultural pageant one she’s most proud of.  In her down time Suzette like’s to dance, and get together with her 12 high school friends for movie night even though they’re all in college, it’s a great way to stay connected with them.  Suzette Schand is definitely a Diva to keep on your radar because her future plans are working towards a career in Law But for now, she lives by some of the best advice she received from her Mom and that is; “A long time ago my mom told me that I should not envy what another person has. She explained that I would be getting mad at something that God decided, and that God has no reason to give it to you after you were mad at him for giving it to someone else”.
